FORT MYERS, Fla. – Jaret Nelson scored the winning run on a ninth-inning throwing error to lift Florida Gulf Coast University to a 6-5 walk-off victory over Minnesota on Wednesday at Swanson Stadium.

With the game tied 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Nelson sparked the Eagles with a leadoff double down the left-field line. After Minnesota struck out the following batter, FGCU’s Cole Lasher reached on an infield error, allowing Nelson to sprint home from second for the win.

The Eagles (4-0) appeared to have the game in hand after Jon Embury hit an RBI double in the eighth to extend the lead to 5-3. However, the Golden Gophers (3-1) rallied in the top of the ninth, using an RBI single by Ty Allen and a sacrifice bunt by Michael Lippe to pull even.

Ashton Pocol (1-0) earned the win in relief. Pocol allowed two runs on just one hit while striking out six across three innings of work. Brandon Jaenke (0-1) took the loss for Minnesota, charged with one run on one hit.

FGCU returns to Swanson Stadium on Friday to open a three-game series against Stonehill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
