BATON ROUGE, La. — The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team continues its early-season road trip on Thursday night, traveling to face Southern University at A.W. Mumford Stadium in the Eagles’ inaugural match in the state of Louisiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. (7 p.m. CT).

Thursday’s matchup marks the second all-time meeting between the two programs. FGCU earned a 4-1 victory in the series opener on Aug. 25, 2022, in Fort Myers behind a pair of goals from Ashley Labbe.

The Eagles (0-1-1) seeking their first victory and first goal of the 2026 campaign following a 0-0 season-opening draw against Houston and a 2-0 road setback at Georgia Southern on Sunday.

Through two contests, defender Sarah Greiner has spearheaded the Eagles’ attack, pacing the team with six total shots and three on target. Midfielder Lexie Bennett ranks second in both categories with three shots and two on goal. In net, sophomore goalkeeper Madara Bome has anchored the defense with nine saves while allowing two goals across 180 minutes.

Thursday serves as the season opener for Southern, the final of nine SWAC programs to begin play in 2026. Picked seventh in the SWAC preseason poll following a 3-12-1 campaign a year ago, eighth-year head coach Jeremy Fontenot’s squad looks to break a six-game non-conference losing skid. Senior forward J’Lea Berry, who led the Jaguars with four goals in 2025, leads the Southern attack.

The match presents a prime opportunity for FGCU to jumpstart its offense, capture its first win of 2026, and remain perfect in the all-time series against the Jaguars.
