PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s soccer team (2-3-0, 0-1 ASUN) dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of West Florida on Saturday night at UWF Soccer Complex, giving the Argonauts their first victory as an NCAA Division I program.

The two sides finished dead even with 12 total shots apiece, but West Florida proved more effective in the final third, placing eight attempts on goal compared to five for the Eagles.

Job Choute and Flavio D’Angelo paced the FGCU attack with two shots each (one on target). Emilio Rossi, Emerson LaOrden, and Michael Ndiweni also registered shots on goal for FGCU, while goalkeeper Marcelo Lacayo finished with five saves on the night.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, West Florida (1-3-1, 1-0 ASUN) broke through with three unanswered second-half tallies. Nikolas Rodriguez Alzate opened the scoring at the 50th minute on a turnaround strike near the top of the 18-yard box. Pedro Henrique Cidade Santos extended the lead at 73rd minute scoring on a set piece, before Adrian Rodriguez converted at the 87th minute on a breakaway to cap the scoring.

FGCU returns home to face ASUN foe North Florida at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 at Pickering Field.
