SAN ANTONIO — The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s soccer team (4-4-0) capped off its Texas road trip with a 3-0 victory over the University of the Incarnate Word (1-4-1) on Friday night at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

FGCU controlled the tempo from kickoff, dictating possession and limiting the Cardinals to zero shots on goal to secure its first clean sheet of the 2026 season. Defensively, it was the first time the Eagles have held an opponent without a shot on target since Oct. 9, 2021, against Bellarmine.

“It was a great game,” midfielder Lucas Barsoe told FGCU Athletics. “We got the second win of this road trip. Great performance from the boys, we controlled the whole game. I’m happy, I think the boys are happy, the coaches are happy.”

The Eagles set the tone early in the seventh minute. Following a corner kick by midfielder Lucas Sperner that was cleared back out, Sperner delivered a second cross into the box. Defender Javier Brown outleaped the defense to head home his first career goal, putting FGCU ahead 1-0.

FGCU doubled its lead in the 26th minute. Forward Aron Martinez unleashed a strike that was saved by the Cardinals’ goalkeeper, but the rebound fell directly to Barsoe. Barsoe hammered the ball off the double crossbar and into the net for his first score of the campaign.

Martinez extended the margin early in the second half with an insurance goal in the 51st minute. The junior struck a low shot off his left foot past the outstretched keeper for his team-leading fourth goal of the season, which ranks tied for second most in the ASUN Conference.

FGCU finished the match with a plus-15 shot margin (17-2), which marked the program’s most dominant defensive differential against a Division I opponent since Sept. 16, 2022.

Goalkeeper Eduard Garcia earned his first shutout of the season without facing a shot on goal, improving to 3-0-0 in net.

FGCU completes its road trip in Charlotte, North Carolina, when it resumes ASUN Conference action at Queens University of Charlotte at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26.
