NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team (4-1-5, 1-0-2 ASUN) battled ASUN Conference foe Lipscomb University (3-1-5, 0-1-2 ASUN) to a 2-2 draw at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex Thursday night—marking the program’s 10th result in its past 11 trips to Music City.

The Eagles grabbed a 2-1 advantage with 44 seconds remaining in the first half when midfielder Ava Russell drilled a shot that deflected off Lipscomb goalkeeper Sundell Woodard straight to the feet of midfielder Avery White. Positioned right in front of the net, White tapped the ball in off her right foot to send FGCU into the break ahead.

Lipscomb scored the equalizer in the 76th minute (75:14) on a chip shot by Katie Brightwell that went over FGCU goalkeeper Madara Bome and into the back of the net. The goal earned Brightwell a brace after she had opened the scoring for the match in the 12th minute.

Facing that initial 1-0 deficit, FGCU weathered a quick secondary threat when Megan Morgan headed away a dangerous ball off a corner kick, then answered on the attack in the 18th minute (17:20). Morgan made a run into the box where Lipscomb was whistled for a handball, setting up a penalty kick. Morgan calmly buried the shot off her left foot to level the score at 1-1.

FGCU nearly snatched all three points late when Keira Morgan won a one-on-one battle and whipped a cross into the box for Kaitlin Gabelman, but Woodard came up with her seventh and final save of the night to keep the match level.

With three seconds remaining in the match, officials reviewed video for a possible FGCU handball inside the box. No infraction was found on the review, and the match concluded in a 2-2 draw.

Shots on the night favored the Eagles 16-13, with FGCU holding a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. Both Megan Morgan and White’s scores marked their first goals of the year, bringing FGCU’s total to 12 different goalscorers on the season.

Bome finished the match with four saves for the Eagles in a full 90 minutes of work in goal.

With the result, the Eagles extend their unbeaten streak to eight games while marking their third consecutive draw against the Bisons.

FGCU travels to Louisville, Kentucky, for a Sunday match against Bellarmine. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
