ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team won its two-day, three-round home tournament, the West Bay Collegiate Invitational, on Tuesday at the West Bay Club, edging out ASUN Conference opponent Lipscomb University by a single stroke to defend its home turf.
The Eagles carded rounds of 276, 282, and 273 to finish at 33-under 831 overall, holding off the Bisons (-32) to capture the title for the second consecutive year and the first win of the Coach Lee McCoy era.
Christian Figueredo led the Eagles, finishing in second place with an 11-under-par 205 after opening with a 5-under 67 and following up with back-to-back 3-under 69s. Brody Stevenson tied for eighth place at 8-under 208, also beginning with a 5-under 67, followed by an even-par 72, and finishing with a 3-under 69. Jay Wilson led the Eagles in the final round shooting a 5-under 67, climbing into a tie for 24th at 4-under 212. Alfie Storer rounded out the counting with a 3-under 68 in the final round to finish tied for 32nd at 2-under 214.
FGCU tied for the second-most eagles in the field with four. The team also had the fourth-most birdies (64), tied for the third-most pars (161), and they tied for the third-fewest bogeys.
FGCU now heads to Miami, Florida, for The Bryson Invitational at Trump National Doral from Oct. 12-14.
