MARANA, Ariz. — The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team concluded its postseason run Wednesday, May 20 finishing 12th at the NCAA Marana Regional at The Gallery Golf Club.
Host No. 18 Arizona claimed the regional title, finishing 49-under-par 815. The Eagles posted a three-day total of 11-over-par on the par-72 course, holding off 13th-place Iona (+18) and 14th-place North Dakota State (+23) in the 14-team field.
Christian Figueredo, Nolan Harper, and Sacha Ruiz paced FGCU individually, finishing in a three-way tie for 43rd place with a three-day total of 2-over-par 218.
Ruiz anchored the Eagles through the opening 36 holes of the tournament, carding a 1-over 73 in the first round before firing a team-best 2-under 70 in the second round to put himself in position for a top-30 finish. However, Ruiz finished the final with a 3-over 75.
Figueredo and Harper saved their best performances for the finale, each carding a 2-under 70 in the third round to surge up the leaderboard. Figueredo opened the tournament with a 75 and a 73, while Harper rebounded from a first-round 76 by shooting an even-par 72 in the second round.
Brett Moore finished in a tie for 53rd individually with a three-round total of 6-over-par 222 after demonstrating consistency throughout the three-day regional, opening with a 2-over 74 and matching that score in both the second and third rounds.
Sebastian Gamboa rounded out the Eagles’ lineup in a tie for 69th with a three-day total of 12-over-par 228. Gamboa carded back-to-back rounds of 3-over 75 on Monday and Tuesday before signing for a 6-over 78 in the final round.
Despite the regional outcome, FGCU head coach Andrew Danna emphasized that the tournament serves as a foundational building block for a program that just rewrote the school record books.
“I’m so proud of our guys they did a great job today,” Danna told FGCU Athletics. “Obviously we made some mistakes in the tournament, we did a lot of great things too, just like every tournament it’s a great learning experience.
“This team is by far the best team in school history they won their conference championship. They won multiple tournaments, individual accolades, the list goes on and their effort is outstanding. They care they work hard, as their coach I am so proud of them. We’ll look to learn from this NCAA tournament experience, and then we’ll be back it in the fall and we’ll work hard and to get right back where we are today and to do better. That’s just the name of the game and that’s golf.”
