FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team has picked up a significant intra-conference piece for the upcoming 2027 season, landing transfer outfielder Kennedy McQuillan from its Atlantic Sun Conference rival the University of North Florida. McQuillan officially announced her commitment to the Eagles on June 26 via her X account.

“FGCU is officially my new home!!!” McQuillan posted. “I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity. I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing program led by an incredible coaching staff!”

The acquisition drew high praise from FGCU head coach Lindsay Fico, who highlighted the transfer as a key building block for the program’s culture moving forward.

“Building it the right way with the right people!” Fico stated on X following the signing.

The announcement came prior to former Iowa outfielder Logan Currie also signing with FGCU on June 28, as the Eagles continue to replenish the outfield following the graduation of its senior class from 2026.

The 5-foot-7 junior from Orlando, Florida, joins the Eagles with three years of remaining eligibility under the NCAA’s newly adopted age-based eligibility model. McQuillan arrives in Fort Myers having already experienced an ASUN Championship campaign in 2025 with the Ospreys.

As a freshman in 2025, she batted .267 (8-for-30) with eight hits, six runs, and four RBIs while starting 11 of 18 games, a rookie year highlighted by a four-game hitting streak and a multi-hit performance against George Mason.

During her sophomore campaign in 2026, she played in 40 games and made 25 starts. McQuillan posted a .280 batting average and an .829 OPS over 82 at-bats, logging 23 hits, nine runs scored, and 15 RBIs. Displaying clean extra-base power, she slugged .463 behind eight doubles, two triples, and a home run while showing sharp plate discipline with 10 walks and a .366 on-base percentage.

McQuillan’s notable games from her second season included an April 3 matchup against Queens (N.C.), where she set season highs with three hits and two doubles. She launched a home run against Montana on Feb. 22 and tripled against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 26. McQuillan also logged two RBIs against Queens on April 19, scored two runs against Stetson on April 11, and swiped a base on April 18.

Prior to her college career, McQuillan put together a decorated prep career at Lake Nona High School, where she led the program to back-to-back district titles in 2021 and 2022. A multi-time All-Metro East selection and former Miracle Sports Second-Team All-State honoree, she capped her high school career as the Florida Varsity Rivals Top Center Fielder in the State of Florida. She earned a national ranking of No. 49 in the Extra Innings Elite 100 after a spectacular junior season in which she hit .519 with 41 hits, 35 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases, a campaign that included her milestone 100th career high school hit.

McQuillan also brings a notable athletic pedigree and academic excellence to FGCU, having earned a spot on the 2024-25 ASUN Academic Honor Roll. Her mother, Kirstin McQuillan, played collegiate golf at Southern Miss, and her sister, Kiley, plays softball at Flagler College.
