BÅSTAD, Sweden — Florida Gulf Coast University women’s tennis player June Bjork wrapped up a summer tournament on Tuesday, falling 6-2, 6-3 to world No. 265 Caijsa Hennemann in the Round of 32 at the WTA 125 Nordea Open.

Entering the clay-court tournament as a massive underdog, the Eagles’ rising junior went toe-to-toe with an established European professional. While the final score favored Hennemann, the match provided Bjork with critical elite-level reps. Competing against a top-300 opponent on the global stage forces tactical adaptation and exposes a collegiate player to a relentless professional pace.

Following her WTA main draw singles debut, Björk, a Stockholm, Sweden, native, took to social media to share her perspective on competing in front of a hometown crowd, emphasizing that the development from the milestone moment far outweighed the numbers on the scoreboard.

“Some moments are bigger than the scoreboard,” Bjork wrote. “Truly grateful for the opportunity to make my WTA singles debut in my home country. Thank you Sofia Arvidsson, Johanna Larsson, and everyone who made this week so special. In front of family, friends, and a home crowd. This is just the beginning. Hope to see you soon, Båstad.”

Ranked No. 112 nationally in the ITA singles rankings this past season, Bjork will bring this high-caliber, battle-tested experience back to Fort Myers. The invaluable tape from this professional main draw gives the Eagles a major development blueprint as they prepare to launch their upcoming collegiate campaign.

FGCU finished the 2026 season making it to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship Final on April 18, where the Eagles fell 4-2 to undefeated University of North Florida.

During that match, Bjork and her doubles partner Nora Svensson won 6-1 over Laurie Barendse and Isabel Oliveira, helping FGCU secure the doubles point. Bjork then lost a hard fought three-set battle to Oliveira in singles, taking the first set 6-4, before falling in the next two sets 6-1 and 6-3.
