Fort Myers, Fla.—Florida Gulf Coast University women’s tennis team picked up wins over Atlantic Sun Conference foe University of North Alabama, University of Colorado Boulder and University of Memphis at the Bonita Bay Collegiate Open held at the Bonita Bay Club in Bonita Springs, Fla. from Friday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 9.
The Eagles picked up a doubles wins over UNA with Anjali Kotecha and Nora Svensson beating Eeva Ristola and Farah Assad 7-5.
In singles FGCU picked up six wins over UNA with Svensson beating Ristola 5-7, 6-4, 10-2. Sabrina Jaramillo defeating Senem Ocal 6-1, 6-2. Johannessen Maeland defeating Louise Booker 6-2, 6-1. Africa Burillo beating Emma Ansorage 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. June Bjork beating Mathilde Delaney 6-2, 6-4 and Paloma Goldsmith defeating Assad 6-1, 6-3.
FGCU got a doubles win over Colorado with Kotecha and Svensson defeating Pia Rebec and Anya Nelson 6-3.
In singles the Eagles earned four wins over the Buffaloes with Svensson beating Lani Brotman 6-3, 6-4. Kotecha defeating Heidi Crncan 6-3, 6-1. Jaramillo defeating Yukiko Ikedo 6-3, 6-1 and Maeland defeating Willow Gretsch 6-2, 6-4.
FGCU picked up a pair of doubles wins over Memphis with Bjork and Burillo beating Clemence Thouard and Emma Dvoracek 6-4, while Goldsmith and Ashley Matz defeated Natalia Koppova and Sofiia Mykhailets 6-3.
The Eagles earned three wins over the Tigers in singles with Jaramillo beating Alicia Mall 5-7, 7-6, 10-2. Matz defeating Dvoracek 5-7, 7-6, 11-9 and Maeland beating Thouard 6-2, 6-2.
FGCU Head Coach Courtney Vernon spoke with FGCU Athletics after the game saying “The ladies played phenomenally this weekend and fought for each match. FGCU women’s tennis returns to the court Wednesday, Jan. 14 when they travel to Coral Gables, Fla. to play the University of Miami at 11 a.m.
