Fort Myers, Fla—Florida Gulf Coast University men’s basketball lost 95-94 to Georgia Southern University at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla. on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
FGCU and Georgia Southern were tied 42-42 after the first half thanks to a driving layup from Eagles player Rahmir Barno.
Georgia Southern gained control with 7:55 remaining in the second half taking an 80-66 lead. FGCU would not give up cutting the lead to 83-81 with 4:57 left on a 3-pointer by Eagles player J.R. Konieczny. FGCU had another opportunity cutting Georgia Southern’s lead to 90-87 with 57 seconds left on another layup from Barno, then the Eagles had one last attempt cutting the lead to 93-91 with 14 seconds left on a layup from Konieczny.
Konieczny finished with a double-double for FGCU with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Barno scored 21 points and seven assists. Rory Stewart scored 18 points including four 3-pointers and Darren Williams finished with 13 points.
Nakavieon White led Georgia Southern scoring 20 points. Tyren Moore scored 17 points including five 3-pointers. Spudd Webb also scored 17 points. Alden Applewhite finished with 11 points and Andres Burney scored 10 points.
FGCU (1-2) remains home at Alico Arena as they host Chattanooga on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m.
