DeLand, Fla—Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team won 3-1 over Stetson University at Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center in DeLand on Wednesday, Nov. 12

FGCU lost the first set 25-23. The Eagles took the second set 25-22 finishing with a kill by Julija Grubisic Cabo and an ace by Hannah Borer. FGCU jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the third set and held on for another 25-22 set win thanks to back to back attack errors by Stetson. The Eagles took the fourth set 25-23 finishing with back to back kills by Catharina Scorza and Barbara Koehler

Abby Toeniskoetter led the Eagles with 21 kills and three aces. Koehler had a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs. Scorza finished with 13 kills. Grubisic Cabo had a double-double of 11 kills and 19 digs. Eliska Vytiskova finished with a double-double of 34 assists and 12 digs, while Reese Burry also had 12 digs.

FGCU Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen spoke with FGCU Athletics after the game “Our goal tonight was really to limit the mistakes on our side of the net and the first couple of sets we didn’t do a very good job of that,” coach Baziquetto- Allen said. “Once we settled in we played much more efficiently and that made us more successful. FGCU (17-8, 11-3 ASUN) heads to Jacksonville, Fla. to play Jacksonville University (20-6, 11-3 ASUN) in a pivotal battle for the top seed in the ASUN Championship Tournament.
