Fort Myers, Fla.—The Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team beat Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Bellarmine University 3-1 at home at Alico Arena in Fort Myers on Sunday, Nov. 9.
Prior to the game the Eagles honored seniors Hanna Borer, Barbara Koehler, Alona Clinansmith and Iyanna Battle prior to the match.
FGCU overcame a slow start losing the first set 25-18, but recovered to take the next three sets 25-17, 25-18 and 25-21.
Julija Grubisic Cabo led the Eagles with 17 kills. Ava Smith and Abby Toeniskoetter each added 10 kills. Borer led FGCU with 24 assists, she also had 10 digs and an ace. Reese Burry led the team in digs with 12 and also had an ace, while Erica Muhizi had six blocks.
FGCU Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen spoke with FGCU Athletics after the game saying “We made some adjustments defensively after the first set and the girls did a much better job on the block and the back line to slow them down. I also felt like we picked up our service pressure and kept them out of system which made a big difference,”
“I am happy we could get the seniors a win on Senior Day, their leadership and belief in this program, though the transition this year has been vitally important in our success this season.” Baziquetto-Allen added. https://fgcuathletics.com/news/2025/11/9/volleyball-eagles-celebrate-seniors-in-3-1-win-over-bellarmine.aspx
