Fort Myers, Fla.—Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team lost 77-51 to Davidson College at Alico Arena in Fort Myers on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Not the start to the season that the Eagles wanted in their first game with New Head Coach Raina Harmon and not the start they were hoping for in the post-Coach Karl Smesko era.

Sinai Douglas finished with 15 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles, including a 3-pointer. Anna Mortag and Nay Staton each added eight points.

Kyra Bruyndoncx scored 20 points for the Wildcats including six 3-pointers, while Charlise Dunn also scored 20 points. Edina Strausz and Dunn tied for the team lead in rebounds each with eight.

Coach Harmon spoke with FGCU Athletics after the game “It’s gut check time. The season’s here, and we never said we were going to go undefeated. We talk about progress over perfection, and that starts now. We didn’t protect the nest tonight, but the question is, what does tomorrow look like? We’ll watch the film, get better, and keep growing through the season.” https://fgcuathletics.com/news/2025/11/8/womens-basketball-fgcu-drops-season-opener-to-davidson.aspx

FGCU (0-1, 0-0 ASUN) hosts Ave Maria University at Alico Arena on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
