Birmingham, Ala.—Florida Gulf Coast University men’s basketball team beat Samford University 77-62 at Pete Hanna Center in Homewood, Ala. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 for their first road win of the season.

The Eagles outscored the Bulldogs 41-33 in the first half with help from nine points from Michael Duax including a 3-pointer and seven points from J.R. Konieczny including a three.

FGCU finished the second half outscoring Samford 36-29 as Rahmir Barno took over the game for the Eagles scoring 14 points including two 3-pointers. Isaiah Malone also added 10 points.

Barno led the Eagles in scoring finishing the game with 16 points. Malone had a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, he also led the team with four blocks. Jordan Ellerbee also scored 12 points.

FGCU finished the game 30 of 59 shooting including seven 3-pointers. The Eagles also finished 10 of 15 from the free throw line.

Samford finished 21 of 62 shooting including seven made threes. The Bulldogs finished 13 of 24 from the line.

Jadin Booth finished with 27 points for the Bulldogs including six 3-pointers. Dylan Faulkner scored 14 points.

FGCU Head Coach Pat Chambers spoke with FGCU Athletics after the game.

“I’m really proud of our players’ mentality and effort that they came out with tonight on the road against a great team,” coach Chambers said. “It’s only November, but we took some positive steps in our development. Long way to go in order to be prepared for conference play.”

FGCU (3-2) returns home to host Oral Roberts University at Alico Arena on Monday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.
