Fairfax, Va.—Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team lost 58-41 to George Mason University at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va. on Wednesday, Nov. 19

George Mason held a 31-27 lead at half out-scoring FGCU 18 to 15 in the first quarter and 13 to 12 in the second quarter.

Karina Gordon led the Eagles in the first half, scoring nine points all 3-pointers. Nay Staton added seven points. Sinai Douglas scored five points, including a 3-pointer. Jalei Pillow scored four points and Eve Alexander added two points.

The Patriots outscored the Eagles 11-5 in third quarter with FGCU’s only points coming on a two from Douglas and two points plus a free throw from Cerina Rolle.

George Mason sealed the game in the fourth quarter outscoring FGCU 16-9. The Eagles only scoring was five points from Pillow, two free throws from Rolle and a last second two from Anna Mortag.

FGCU finished made 16 of 50 shots including four 3-pointers. The Eagles also made five free throws. FGCU turned the ball over 26 times, with George Mason scoring 25 points off those turnovers.

George Mason made 22 of 62 shots with no 3-pointers and finished 14 of 15 from the free throw line

Gordon and Pillow finished with nine points for FGCU, while Staton and Douglas each scored seven points.

Zahirah Walton led the Patriots with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Maliyah Johnson added 12 points and Louis Volker finished with 10 points.

FGCU (1-2) returns home to host Indiana University at Alico Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m.
